Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to restore lost volume, smooth fine lines, and enhance natural facial contours. They are made from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance already found in the skin. The hyaluronic acid attract and retain moisture, giving the skin a plumper, more youthful appearance.

Key information
Duration
The appointment is usually around 45 - 60 minutes, depending on area treated. The actual procedure time is usually 15-20 minutes.
Longevity
Results from the filler can be seen immediately and they usually last between 6 and 18 months.
Procedure
The procedure can be uncomfortable however the area is numbed prior with numbing cream. The filler also contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine).
Downtime
With any injectables, there will be some mild swelling. Some areas settle quicker than others, but on average, swelling should settle down after 7 days.
Side effects
The most common side effect is swelling and bruising.
A rare complication is vascular occlusion where filler blocks or compresses a blood vessel, reducing blood flow to the surrounding tissue. In the unlikely event this occurs, the filler would be dissolved using hyaluronidase.
